Practitioner Services - Enabling Primary Care

About Us

Welcome to our web site - the following information outlines who we are and how we fit into the NHS in Scotland.

Practitioner Services is one of eleven Divisions within NHS National Services Scotland (NSS). NSS provides a wide range of support services to the NHS Scotland, to ensure that patient care is delivered effectively throughout Scotland.

Practitioner Services provide patient focused services such as the transfer of medical records between GP practices, assisting patients to access GP and dental practices, as well as assisting practitioners to maintain accurate and up-to-date patient registers. Practitioner Services also has a Clinical Governance role with regard to dental services to ensure services are delivered to high professional standards.

Practitioner Services work closely with the Scottish Government Health Directorate (SGHD) to develop and implement new services such as the new Pharmacy Minor Ailment Service, enabling eligible patients to receive advice and medication directly from their pharmacist rather than having to make a GP appointment.

Practitioner Services are committed to providing a professional, effective and efficient service to patients and stakeholders.
