Practitioner Services - Enabling Primary Care

About Us

Welcome to our web site - the following information outlines who we are and how we fit into the NHS in Scotland.

Practitioner Services provides a wide range of services to support health professionals in Scotland. We have offices at 5 sites across Scotland - Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Livingston and plays in integral role in the payment of health professionals in the dental, pharmacy; GP and ophthalmic sectors.

Our services cover document processing; data capture and verification; maintaining an up-to-date patient registration database; medical file transfers; payment schedules; and a Clinical Governance role with regard to Dental services. Our services are designed to enable you, as a practitioner, to be paid accurately and promptly for medicines and services supplied on behalf of the NHS.

As well as our 'routine' business, Practitioner Services also work closely with the Scottish Government to develop and implement new services and service improvement - such projects include the Pharmacy Minor Ailment Service; QMAS and GP2GP.

Practitioner Services also works closely with Scottish Health Boards, Special Health Boards, as well as the governing bodies for each of the 4 specialties. Practitioner Services is one of the few NSS divisions with direct customer inter-face with members of the public accessing our services in Aberdeen; Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Practitioner Services is committed to providing open, honest and transparent services to our stakeholders, as well as embracing new technologies to ensure best practice and value for money for the NHS in Scotland.

We have been working with stakeholders, customers and our staff to develop our strategy entitled Enabling Primary Care which sets out the strategic direction and its associated action plan for Practitioner Services through to the year 2015.

We provide a range of services to Primary Care contractors, all of which enable patient care.

We are committed to improving the services we provide and seek views for our customers and stakeholders annually. The Customer Survey Report 2008/09 (pdf, 144kb) shows what you thought of our service over the past year.
