Docman Transfer enables GP Practices to transfer all relevant scanned patient documents to the next GP Practice electronically, when a patient transfers GP Practice, and also to receive electronic patient documents for importing into Docman.
This was successfully piloted in NHS Ayrshire and Arran on 30 November 2006. Since then Docman Transfer has been rolled out successfully to all NHS Board areas.
By January 2012, 98% of GP Practices in Scotland were Docman Transfer enabled. The latest statistics on the rollout of the Docman Transfer project can be found on the Statistics page.
The Exchanging Patient Records Newsletters can be accessed on the newsletters page. A comprehensive list of FAQs is also available.
Guidance and forms relating to Docman Transfer can be found in the Guidance section. This section also includes information such as Setting up a Virtual Printer Driver, guidance on exporting patient summaries from the various GP clinical systems and advice from SCIMP for Practices considering 'back scanning' their patients' paper notes.
Some of the processes currently undertaken in relation to Records transfer are labour intensive and potentially at risk of contravening certain pieces of legislation. The GP Connect Programme Board considered these issues and identified possible solutions which are documented in the National eHealth Programme - Primary Care Medical Records - Medical Records Process Improvements document.
This document sets out a high level overview of the Records transfer process, highlights current issues and areas for improvement, and describes agreed solutions to these issues.
